A SAD BUT A HAPPY DAY TOO

By Devashis Mukherjee (IX B)

"Happy Children's Day" -, that's what we children are wished on 14th November. But I doubt whether this day, for me, will be as happy as earlier ones. For whenever I think of the day the Beslan tragedy comes into my mind. Those numerous, innocent school children, whose minds are pure as the white lotus, are now being torn apart by their past trauma. Some have perished, some have survived but even those who have survived, this trauma will influence their future life and on those days we sleep soundly in our cosy homes they will still be having terrible nightmares. This sad thought often momentarily casts me into gloom. But when again I think of all those poor children all over the world, who are being provided with education, food and clothing and are being given a chance to prove themselves, my face lights up.
The Belsan tragedy was a sad one, but on this children's day, let's make vow to protect, love and care for children who are the greatest assets of this world and also to remove terrorism from this world. So that again children may not have to suffer as those of Beslan did.

Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
