T. S. Eliot (d. 1965), the British poet and playwright who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1948, was born in the U.S.A.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest known manuscripts of any books of the Bible. Some of the scrolls may be more than 2000 years old. They were discovered in the mid 1900s in caves near the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea in Palestine and Israel.
When Francis Day built Fort St. George, he was severely criticised for selecting a place which had no natural harbour. Ships had to anchor far out at sea and the passengers had to be brought ashore by masullas, boats made of planks tied together. However, by 1881, an artificial harbour was constructed north of the Marina beach. Today, Chennai is a major shipping centre.
