CHILDREN'S CONTRIBUTIONS

MY INDIA

By M Vagmi (VII B)

What kind of India would I want to build, live in and live for?

India won its freedom in 1947. Great progress has been made in these sixty years. But we still have a long way to go. I want to build our country in such a way that all citizens lead a good life. It means that:
a) All must have a house to live in.
b) All must have enough money to eat well and keep healthy.
c) All must have wealth enough to clothe themselves well.
d) All children must go to school. Education should be made free to all those who cannot afford to pay.
e) Medical treatment must be available free to all those who cannot afford to pay.
f) There must be no injustice to anyone because of difference in caste or religion.
g) Agriculture and industry must be properly developed so that we produce food needed by our people and employment is available to all the common people to earn their livelihood.
h) There should be no necessity for begging for earning a living.

In addition people should be taught moral values and discipline and to work selflessly and honestly. As Indira Gandhi said, `We should not ask what the country has done for us, but ask what we have done for the country.’ We should do all our work in a way that we can hold our head high at all times. We should be a strong nation and get the respect of all the nations of the world.
I want to build, live in and live for an India as above.

Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
