Strikes and Bandhs

India is the world’s largest democracy with over one billion people. In a democracy, people have the right to express their opinion and voice their concern on issues as much as law permits. Unfortunately in recent times organizations and political parties are misusing their democratic rights and causing unnecessary hardship to the common man in the name of strikes and bandhs. Then daily life comes to a halt every time a bandh is called for. Children cannot attend school, exam schedules get altered, elders cannot go to work, etc. The economy which is the backbone for any country comes to halt.
Similarly when a strike is called for by any organization, again the common man is deeply affected.
The question is, by causing hardship to others can the issues be resolved? I think NOT. In my opinion, issues can be resolved when the two concerned parties sit across the table and communicate with each other and come to a conclusion. Everyone should realize that meaningful discussions and dialogue will lead to the best solution. Even during the discussions, one should consider everyone’s best interest and not just their own.
