A 2 inch x 12 inch cardboard piece to be used as a mount board, the inside boxes of 2 standard matchboxes, 2 empty plastic ball pen refills with the metal ends cut off, a string measuring about 2 feet in length and chart paper.
1. Pierce the top ends of the 2 matchboxes in such a way that the refills can pass right through the holes as seen in the figure. Insert the 2 refills through the holes. Now, paste the 2 boxes facing inwards on to the two ends of the mount board.
2. Now, attach the string from one refill to the other as shown in the picture allowing a few extra twirls on one of the refills.
3. Take a 1-inch x 1-inch piece of chart paper and draw or paste a picture of anybody or anything on this piece. Put a tab on the upper end of this picture so that it can hang on the string as seen in the picture.
4. Twirl the refill and the picture will move from one end to the other.
Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
