3 empty toothpaste or other cardboard cartons of the same size; a rectangle of chart paper measuring 30 cm x 5 cm; black sketch pen; two square erasers; white paper to cover the cartons; 24 small plastic buttons; scissors and glue.
1. On the rectangle of chart paper, draw railway tracks as shown with the black sketch pen.
2. Cut out the shaded portion from two cardboard cartons as shown in the picture. Fold the flaps inwards at the dotted line.
3. Cover all the three cartons with the white paper and sketch in the windows with a black sketch pen. These are the ‘coaches’.
4. Attach the coaches together by glueing the erasers, one between the first and second carton and the other between the second and third.
5. Cut out three rectangles from the chart paper which are the same size as the cartons. Fold downwards at the dotted lines. Paste four pairs of buttons on each side of the base, that is, 8 buttons to a coach.
6. Fix the coaches on these bases and place the whole train on the track.
Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
