The vireo is a species of songbird found in the Americas. The best-known vireo is the red-eyed vireo, which is recognized by its red eyes, outlined on top with a white and black line. It sings all through the day in a note which is very conversational — as though it were talking to someone.
The vireo can make 40 different cries in a single hour. Because it repeats its call non-stop it has been nicknamed the 'preacher bird'. Both males and females make persistent calls, but the male's notes are not musical.
Red-eyed vireos are commonly found in the Americas, from Alaska to Brazil.
