The green iguana is a lizard which can swim well. When it wants to escape from a predator, it dives underwater, where it remains until the predator goes away. It can remain underwater for upto almost an hour - long enough to try the patience of its predators.
There’s a lizard species called the oscellated skink, which digs tunnels inside trees to which it escapes in times of danger. Digging tunnels is no problem for this skink for its wedge-shaped snout and powerful hind legs serve as efficient tools.
The gliding gecko of Thailand is a 15-cm long lizard which is able to glide to safety. When confronted by an enemy, it leaps from its tree perch and spreads its legs and tail.
This stretches out the folds of skin on either side of its body, which serve as tiny parachutes for the gecko to glide to a safer branch.
