A man from Shiraz met a scholar from Damascus at the public baths.
Noting that the scholar was balding, the Shirazee upturned a brass vessel and, pointing to its rounded shining base, said to the scholar:
"How is it that all you Damascenes have heads like this?"
The scholar took the vessel from the man, upturned it and pointing to its empty cavity said:
"How is it that all Shirazees have heads like this?"
Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
