Monkey-eating eagles are found in the jungles of the Philippines. They have broad, stout wings and long tails. This allows them to twist and turn through the trees while pursuing troops of monkeys. These birds build gigantic nests which they occupy season after season. Although it lays two eggs, only one normally hatches. The young is looked after by its parents until about a year old. Hence these birds can only breed once every two years. This slow rate of breeding coupled with extensive deforestation has brought it to the verge of extinction.
