- Alan:- [ 4/23/2007 ] The most important rule in doing the shot put is to make sure that the shot is not thrown. Throwing a heavy weight, like the shot, can lead to injury of the elbow and maybe the shoulder. Throwing a shot during competition is a foul and the attempt will be disqualified.
