A TRIP TO SWITZERLAND

By Felicia Pereira (XI A)

Tring..Tring..tring the telephone rang in Juan’s house. Juan was in deep sleep. The phone rang again after a few minutes, Juan jumped up from his bed not knowing whether it was the door bell or the telephone which rang. Within a few seconds he was back in his senses and figured that it was the telephone which had disturbed his sleep.
‘Hello’ he said in a sleepy voice. “Hello, Juan it’s me. I have been trying to call you for 10 minutes now. I was really worried when you did not answer,” came his father’s voice. “Dad, I was very tired when I came back from the picnic.
We played a lot and the weather was a bit hot. So when I returned, I just had a shower and went to sleep” said Juan. “Now listen,” his father said. “Do you remember when we went out for the carnival last week there was a lucky dip and the prize for the winner was free tickets and a two week stay for a family of four in a five star hotel in Switzerland?
Well your mother has won it and we have planned to go to Switzerland for Christmas. Wow, that’s really great Dad,” screamed Juan with excitement. When his sister Jennifer returned from a party at her friend’s house later in the day, Juan gave her the news.
They both counted and waited for that day to come. At last the day came, a week before Christmas their family took flight to Switzerland. They spent their first week skating and playing ice hockey and touring places. Then one day Juan felt a breathing discomfort.
He complained to his parents who immediately took him to the hospital. Dr. Martin, the lung specialist examined him carefully and took a number of tests before his prognosis. Juan was shell shocked! The doctor had just told him he had an asthma attack. He couldn’t believe it! As far as he knew no one in the family suffered from any lung ailments, How could this be? "It might be the cold weather up here", suggested Dr. Martin.
Dr. Martin prescribed some medicines and suggested that they would have to cut short the vacation and return to their home town, if Juan was to recover completely. This was a hard choice since Juan was looking forward to playing more ice hockey and skiing down the Alps.
His parents decided it would be best if they returned home quickly so they caught their next flight. Back in his home town Juan recovered quickly and was fit to return to school and play with his friends.
