The Giant Carvings of Mt. Rushmore

Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of Dakota in the USA displays the heads of four American Presidents — George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The heads, each of which is 18 metres from chin to top of forehead, were conceived and created by the American sculptor, Gutzon Borglum.
Construction began in 1927 and continued for 14 years. Borglum employed some 300 workers to help him carve out the gigantic sculpture which is now one of America’s greatest tourist attractions.
