St. Lucia is a tiny island country of volcanic origin, in the Caribbean. It is a constitutional monarchy, headed by Queen Elizabeth II of Britain. A governor-general heads the government. Cocoa, coconut and bananas (St. Lucia is the 2nd largest producer of bananas in the Caribbean) are the main items of export. But it is tourism that brings major revenue for the country. Although tiny in size, not even half the size of Delhi, the island has produced two Nobel Prize winners (Sir Arthur Lewis, who won the prize for Economics in 1979 and Derek Walcott for Literature in 1992) and writers and artists of international stature.
