TALES FROM READERS

Fear of LIZARD

Anusha lived in the city with her parents. She was a good girl. She always did her home work and was punctual to school. The only problem with her was that she was very afraid of lizards. The sight of a lizard was enough to make her scream.
Once she spotted a lizard on the terrace wall and after that she stopped going to terrace altogether. Her parents tried to reason with her that lizard was very important for ecological balance.
Anusha would say in dismay, "How can an ugly animal like lizard be of any help ?"
Her mother said, "Of course dear, it is of great help, because it eats the insects and maintain the balance in nature".
But, it seems she was not at all convinced with her parents answer. She would always make a lot of fuss every time she saw lizard.
One night a lizard scuttled across the wall, she declined to sleep until the lizard was driven out of the house. After making sure that the house was free from lizard, she slept peacefully.
Suddenly she found all kinds of insects on her bed. When she opened her food bowl, she almost screeched as it was full of cockroaches. Even her favorite toffees were being eaten by ants. Her cupboard of books was attacked by insects. There were spider webs in every nook and corner of the house.
She was in despair to see so many insects she thought, "what to do ?"
Then she called her mother and said, "Mamma hurry up!! Call the pest control department".
Just then the lizard appeared from nowhere. All the insects ran in fright on seeing the lizard. Some of them were eaten by the lizard and some managed to escape. Even, Anusha was not angry this time.
Suddenly she saw her mother's face. She was waking her up for school.
Anusha exclaimed, "I was dreaming and my goodness what a dream",.
She quickly got ready for school and while climbing the stairs to her class she spotted a lizard on wall but at this time, she was not nervous. She smiled to herself and went to her class.
