TALES FROM READERS

Everything For Something

"BOOM'
Jimmy closed his ears with both hands.
It is going to rain he looked through the window.
He loves rain and likes to go out and play in the rain.
But the lightning and thunder that is what he is afraid of.
If there were no lightning and thunder, I would have gone out and played in the rain. He thought.
"BOOM,... BOOM"
Another big one. Jimmy went hiding behind the chair.
Why there is always lightning and thunder during rain? What is the use? Sitting there he started thinking.
That evening while saying his prayers, he had only one thing to request.
Stop lightning and thunder.
Hearing his innocent request the God smiled.
Next day, when it started raining, there was no lightning and thunder.
Jimmy was very happy. My prayers were answered and it stopped for ever.
"Mummy, I am going out to play in the rain" He shouted and ran towards the door.
"Be careful Jimmy, there will be lightning and thunder any moment" warned his mummy.
"No Mummy. No more lightning and thunder, the god heard my prayers.
She smiled.
He jumped out in to the rain and started dancing. He ran around the house. Rolled in the water and splashed the water left and right. "Will it rain tomorrow and spoil our great match?" he doubted. Tomorrow there will be the Football final match between his school and the Government High School. Being the Captain of the School Football team he decided to practice in the rain.
What a fun, he thought and continued practicing..
Suddenly, due to the wind and rain, a branch of a tree broke and came down. Jimmy got frightened and ran to wards the house but he slipped and his head hit on a stone very hard.
Blood started coming out.
He went inside holding the forehead with one hand and completely wet.
His mother covered him with a towel and applied medicine on the wound.
That night Jimmy was not able to sleep. He was shivering with fever and his forehead was paining too.
"Yesterday night you had a very bad sleep. Even fever too. Take rest and don't go to school today" said his mother.
I will miss the match. He realized and felt very sad. It was my fault. I should not have gone out to play in the rain.
Had there been the lightning and thunder, I would not have the courage to go out to play.
That evening while saying his prayers, he had only one thing to request.
Bring back lightning and thunder.
Hearing his innocent request the God smiled once again.
