Well I think this is very true that sellers and traders are selling defective goods at a very high rate which decreases the quality but increases the quantity. Now for their profit they have started to add harmful adulterants which is injurious to health. So I think consumer rights should be there.

yup. We've all got to make sure we're not cheated. I think the least we can do is check the expiry date and authenticity of the brand. If the consumers are smart there won't be any scope for exploitation! :)

Now a days consumers are easily cheated by traders and sellers consumers consciousness towards their rights and the social legal obligations of the business and the government is very poor . The government enacted a consumer protection act in 1986. But there is no awareness among our citizens . To take measures or precautions to the people. Few awareness programmes to be held in rural areas if so these are followed by our government and also if the rights are followed by people these major problems will be solved slowly.

This discussion forum is great and also on the same side very helpful for the lay man to get to know about it. It is very good for students and for people who wants the information about it. In a nutshell I just want to convey my message to the head of this department that its great idea of making people aware of such exploitations of our country.

I feel consumers fall prey to aggressive advertisements done by some ad agencies like jump from top of a hill etc . although a notice of caution preceeds such ads viewers seldom read this caution as it is flashed for few seconds. It is with this kind of ads that defective goods are introduced in market. There is other side consumer should discourage these kind of customer exploitation which also include sale of goods that have expired expiry data and these case should be filed in consumer court for which every indian consumer should be knowledgeable of their right.

I think nowadays, traders are imposing high prices even for every day items like onions. Mediocre people are being exploited by these cunning fellows. Even though the sellings are not good they are not ready to reduce the prices. They are really taking advantage of the helplessness of the people. We ,the people have to protest against this with the help of government.

I think if anybody cheat any consumer then consumer has a right to voice against them in consumer court and try to spread awareness everywhere so that every citizen can understand importance of consumer and can get aware if in country anybody will try to spread awareness, then I think our country has right to develop.

First & the most important thing is that the consumer should be aware about his rights& duties so that he can raise his voice against traders & sellers if cheated. Nowadays we see that many products are available in the market by which the purchaser gets confused ,so we should be aware about duties so that we can ask for the information of the product & purchase it. I request everybody to know about consumer rights & duties so that they are not exploited by sellers & traders in future.

I strongly feel that we ,consumers are being exploited by the sellers. We,the citizens of our country must do something about it. Some sellers sell their goods which have passed their expiry dates, whereas some increase the M.R.P.rate, some contaminate them. This cannot be tolerated. Helpless people largely get affected. We must approach the court bravely.

Well I strongly believe our consumer forum should be made powerful especially in terms or appliances because large amount of people are not aware of the after sale sevices , operating system, benefit of the seasons , guaranty, warranty. With the help of this forum people can file their grievances and get benefitted. Thus people are educated about there right to fight.

I feel we can do a little to fight against consumer exploitation by doing certain small things like checking the expiry date, checking for the ISI mark and always make sure that we get the bill for anything we buy. These are small things which if we keep in our minds we can save ourselves {consumers} from being exploited.

I think the below mentioned are also the ways we consumers get exploited. How about these: 1. Under-weight and under-measurements 2. Sub-standard quality 3. High prices 4. Duplicate articles 5. Adulteration and Impurity 6. Lack of safety devices 7. Artificial scarcity 8. False or Incomplete information 9. Unsatisfactory after-sale services. 10. Rough behaviour and undue conditions

4-Jul-2006
Of course consumers should raise their voice against a problem as serious as this. How would you like it if you were cheated? Consumer exploitation is no game, the producers are actually cheating people of their hard-earned money. It can also get dangerous when the producers sell items with false and incorrect information and the consumers later get hurt when they use these appliances. So, the govt. has to come up with schemes to stop consumer exploitation and also to educate people on the ways they get exploited, their rights, duties etc. It's high time we take this problem seriously and find a solution before it's too late.

Now a days it is an important fact about the sellers and traders that their cost of product is going beyond the level of normal person. In contrast ,there is many adverse effect of this problem. From normal people's point of view this increase in rate have caused great pressure on consumer mind during purchasing. Today ,the sellers are selling the goods in different manner, they have increased the quantity little bit inspite of which they earn more money from the consumer. Sometimes adulterated food is also supplied to the consumer. At the end this thing confirms that consumer be only be saved from expoitation when it is fully aware about the rights that they have.

Consumers get exploited due to lack of awareness. You should always ask for a bill after a purchase. Just do this much and it will surely help. It serves as a proof of what you've brought and if its defective, you can drag the seller to consumer courts. Also, if he does not give you a bill, he won't pay govt. taxes. So you help the govt. too by getting the items billed.

Being a consumer I would suggest we should raise voice against such a cheat business. This revolting approach of an ordinary consumer will over all have a large impact on the society, as a result more & more consumers will get aware of their consumer rights. Ultimately leaving behind the element of uncertainity common man will raise his voice against it. Even if the price of product involved will be very less.

Consumer exploitation being a major problem today, should be dealt with seriously both by the government and the citizens(the consumers). It is not acceptable as it only adds to the numerous health problems faced by the people today. The increasing amount of environment degradation and consumer exploitation are two problems that have to be dealt seriously at any cost. I suggest that the NEW GEN should come forward in all fields of administration and legislation and take control of our and our coming generations future.

Well i think today many sellers and manufacturers are selling low qulity products at high rates and exploiting many consumers. According to me, to tackle such sellers consumers should become aware of his rights, only if consumers are aware then only then such sellers can be taught a lesson. Government has brought consumer protection act 1986 to help consumer under which if any consumer is cheated, he can move to consumer redressal agency and can get compensation for malpractice of sellers and manufacturers.

Here it begins: the great battle, the consumer vs the corporation. Aggressive marketing (bordering on exploitation) has always been one of the major ways to increase profits. It's been happening for many a decade, growing unchecked. There are many things consumers are not aware of, not just pertaining to costs of items and the composition of these products, but to the environmental impact caused in the production and transportation of such goods. When creating products, companies dump a lot of toxic compounds into environment where these products are made. Who will suffer? The people who live in the environment, and even the rest of the some 6 billion people who also reside on the planet. What causes this? I agree with Modh Rahman that illiteracy is a factor, but not the only one. The biggest problem (in Canada or the US at least) is that people don't care. No one is willing to pay the price for quality control, or for making sure people have a safe environment. Most people want cheap products, even though they contain toxic substances. Don't believe me? Ask around... see if anyone is willing to pay a few extra dollars for making sure that the guys over in mexico, or brazil, or bangladesh, or india, or any other country for that matter have a safe working area. Many people will either laugh, and say "Who cares?" or they feel guilty and maybe agree, but not really mean it. Something must be done... but the question is "What?" What can we do? For this purpose, for fighting injustice among corporations and governments alike, a non-governmental organization must be created. Our message must be spread amongst the people of the world, and such treachery must be abolished. I'm currently enrolled in the IB program, and I have to do a presentation for Theory of Knowledge, so I picked this as my topic :-). I also have to do community service hours, so I might start up a website or something similar to this one which will allow for mass education. If anyone is interested in helping out, you can email me at gudimella.rakesh@gmail.com. -Rakesh, from Canada

Their are various ways in which consumers are being exploited eg. 1. adulteration - Pulses being mixed with small yellow stones, rice with white stones, milk with detergent, layer of wax on apples are some examples of adulteration and are very common now a days. 2. unfair trade practices when shopkeepers weigh less than what they should. 3. Traders add charges that were not mentioned before.
