This activity can be given to the students after the completion of the four fundamental operations viz. addition, subtraction, multiplication and addition.
This is an interesting activity which can be used by the teachers to give more practice problems after the completition of the four fundamental operations. In this activity, only addition and multiplication are considered. Teachers can design similar activities for other operations too. Children enjoy doing such activities and hence will happily solve more problems.
Objectives
To help the students to
i) find the sum or product in different sections of the picture
ii) compare the sum or product with the key to find the corresponding colour
iii) colour different parts of the figure according to the given colour code
iv) conclude that a number can be obtained in many ways

Materials Required
  • Required number of photocopies of the picture
  • Colour pencils or crayons

Instruction to teachers

  • Give a photocopy of the picture to each child
  • Explain the steps clearly, with an example if needed
  • Give them sufficient time to complete the activity
  •  At the end, colour one such picture and show it to the children as an example
This way, a drawing class can be made more interesting and at the same time, used to reinforce various concepts in Mathematics.
  •  Ask the child to calculate the sum or product in different sections of the picture.
  • Then let them find the colour code for each number obtained.
  •  Finally, ask them to colour the different sections of the picture according to the colour code.
